One of the stated goals behind the St Croix 40 Winter Ultra is to help share knowledge of winter ultramarathons with people who are new to the sport, or just stating to investigate it. We want to give you some tools to be successful as you start your winter ultra career. Welcome to our new Winter Journal! A place where we’ll be sharing some things you need to know to help you as you start your journey.
Over the next few months, we’ll be building this journal into a resource to use as you prepare for race day. We’ll be publishing interviews with experienced athletes and (hopefully) how-to videos to show you some of what you need to know to be ready. We’re not going to show you everything though!
Becoming a winter athlete is a journey, and it’s travelled by being a part of the community. Learning how to do this isn’t something that you can learn from books. You need to share time with people who have been there, and then get out and practice, practice, practice. This little journal can help you on your way, but it is in no way a replacement for talking to people who have done this before. Get yourself involved with winter athlete groups, and better yet, sign up to volunteer at other events like Tuscobia and Arrowhead.
Just like trail running, the community surrounding this sport is the most important thing. Don’t try to do this alone. Get connected and learn. Thanks for joining us on this journey, and we can’t wait to see you in January!
