Greetings friends!
“Can you believe those trail conditions?!”
“Can you believe this weather?!”
That was the oft-repeated refrain of the weekend at this year’s St Croix 40 Winter Ultra. Runner, biker, skier… one after another would cross the finish line and rave about how awesome a year this was. There were some DNFs – there always are, in a race like this! – and folks whose race didn’t go as they would have liked. But overall, it sounds like it was a wonderful time out there in the woods, and we’re truly grateful for being able to host you for our all-night winter party.
Now that we’ve recovered and (mostly) unpacked and cleaned up from the weekend (there’s still some pesky coffee urns that need to be cleaned…) we wanted to share a quick wrap up of this year’s event.
Although we cap registration at 145 we know that not everyone will make it to the race. However, this year you all showed up big time and we started our biggest field yet at 125. Additionally, this was our lowest DNF race since 2019 at 87%. It’s hard to compare that first year to this given how much we’ve grown and how much the race has changed. Kudos to everyone for really sticking it out this year!
We’ve heard back from at least one photographer and have added them to our photos page: https://stcroixwinterultra.com/race-details/race-photos/. If we get other links to albums, we’ll post them there as well.
Official race results are live on Ultrasignup: https://ultrasignup.com/results_event.aspx?did=123490
And all results from all years, including the live tracking sheets, can be found on our website: https://stcroixwinterultra.com/race-details/race-results/
We also keep a page of race reports going, so if you have a blog you’ve written or a video you’ve produced about your experience please feel free to share it and we’ll post it: https://stcroixwinterultra.com/race-details/race-reports/
Out there in the dark, without even the moon and stars for company, you all made discoveries. Of all the things we take home with us from the race, one of the most important is perspective. Something is always a little bit different on Sunday than it was on Saturday, even for us as race directors. Especially this year, especially now, so many of us are reckoning with truly unbelievable circumstances in our lives. We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to bring everyone together for a period of respite, solitude, and – most importantly – community. We hope that, whatever you found on the trail this weekend, whatever curious or quiet discoveries came to you unbidden, that you have returned home with something special. Something more.
Next year’s race will be January 9-10, 2027 (continuing to be two weeks ahead of Arrowhead), and registration will open on August 15th, 2026.
We hope to see you all in the future and hope you find peace and joy through the rest of this beautiful winter season
Cheers,
Jamison and Lisa
